Nein, die Suche hatte ich vorher (leider unsauber) entfernt aus der header.php.
Hatte das jetzt vorübergehend wieder aktiviert um es zu überprüfen und dabei den Fehler gefunden.
Lag an der header.php.
Die obige Lösung funktioniert jetzt einwandfrei!

Danke für die superschnelle Antwort.
Ich habe das entsprechend in der Style.css geändert - aber das Ergebnis ist noch nicht ganz zufriedenstellend; der letzte Menüpunkt ist leider immer noch in der zweiten Zeile:

Ich bin WP Anfänger und habe ein Problem mit der Navigationsleiste: Ich möchte 8 Menüpunkte in einer Reihe unterbringen; die Menüpunkte werden aber zweispaltig umgebrochen.
Habe schon gegoogelt, in die FAQ geschaut und das Forum durchwühlt - richtig weiter bin ich nicht gekommen.
Klar ist mir mittlerweile, dass die Style.css angepasst werden muss - kapiere leider nicht wo genau.
